(Photographed above is Freedom, Snap's dam) When Snap was two days old, her mother Freedom stepped on her left hind leg (snapping it) hence the name, Snap. Her leg was set and the young doe was forced to drag a cast around for the first 6 weeks of her life. Unfortunately her leg didn't quite as "smoothly" as we'd hoped. She has full function, yet there is a noticable "lump" in the leg. Snap is Freedom's only daughter in the herd, so obviously it made sense to keep her! We are hoping the leg won't cause her any problems this winter when she is heavy with child - our veternarian has advised us that breeding her is perfectly safe - her leg will hold up fine. But still, we worry, worry, worry... However, we are eagarly anticipating her freshening and being able to show her as a young milker.
